Yesterday was a big day for the children of New York.
Governor Cuomo announced the State has been selected for an innovative pilot permitting enrollment in the free school meals program using direct certification through Medicaid.
Joel Berg, Executive Director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, said, "New York’s participation in this essential pilot program is a win-win, which will bring more federal money into the state while feeding more hungry children.

The 9th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Serve-A-Thon brought out hundreds of volunteers yesterday to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King through community service activities.
Organized by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, Serve-A-Thon events included Breakfast in the Classroom outreach, public art projects, food stamps screenings and enrollment assistance at supermarkets, and general-improvement efforts at emergency food programs throughout the five boroughs.
