Special Interests Triumph Over Hungry Americans in House Farm Bill Vote

Statement by Joel Berg, Executive Director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, in Response to House Passage of Farm Bill

“Today’s vote is the latest smoking gun that the house majority isn’t truly interested in deficit reduction, they’re interested in supporting special interest groups over hungry Americans. The farm bill passed by the House of Representatives today is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the American people. The American people deserve a Farm Bill that favors feeding hungry Americans over the interests of agra-business. However, this farm bill did not include the nutrition title. The House needs to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. Recent farm bills have represented the worst of American politics. It's time to pass a food bill that represents the best.”
