Other Ways to Support
Every donation - small or large - makes a dramatic impact on our efforts to end hunger in New York City. There are some other ways you can help the New York City Coalition Against Hunger and assist us in our efforts to help hungry New Yorkers:
Give equipment or services.
Emergency food programs are constantly in need of material help from generous individuals. Some examples of needed items are copy machines and supplies, fax machines, computer equipment, printers and supplies, used vehicles, refrigeration equipment, fans and air conditioners, kitchen appliances, cleaning supplies (e.g., detergent, soap, brooms, mops), and building repair services (e.g. electrical work, carpentry, painting). Many larger agencies also organize annual toy drives. If you are interested in donating kitchen or office equipment, contact our staff at 212-825-0028 x206 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include in your email the make and model of the equipment (if known), the approximate value, your contact information, where it can be picked up, and when you would like the pickup to occur. We will only give your contact information to the agency that will pick up the donation.
Giving money is usually more cost-effective than giving food because NYCCAH and other anti-hunger organizations are able to leverage money into far greater food resources. However, for people who prefer to give food, there are many ways to donate food to individual or multiple feeding programs. To donate to a specific program in your area, please visit our Kitchen & Pantry Search: Visit Kitchen & Pantry SearchEnter in the zip code for the area in which you would like to donate, you will receive a listing of the names, addresses, and contact information for nearby feeding agencies. To donate large amounts of canned food, contact the Food Bank for New York City. To donate large amounts of prepared or fresh food, contact City Harvest. Also, many large feeding programs organize food drives, typically around the holidays. During these times, keep an eye to your local press or religious bulletin boards for opportunities to give.
Throw a benefit party.
Host a fundraising party with your friends, family, or co-workers to raise money or resources to benefit the Coalition's programs. We've teamed up with Party for Humanity, a non-profit organization that let's you celebrate by having party guests give to a charity of your choice, so if you're interested, please visit their website to get started.
