VIDEO: Joel Berg on CNBC's Kudlow Report talking about NYC's ban on food donations to city-run homeless shelters
Last night, NYCCAH Executive Director Joel Berg discussed NYC's ban on food donations to city-run homeless shelters with Larry Kudlow on CNBC.
The following statement outlines NYCCAH's position:
"We, the NYC Coalition Against Hunger, support the City in working to improve the nutritional standards of food donated to shelters, especially when taking into account the already compromised immune systems of many homeless individuals.
"Accepting food from individuals who make uncoordinated and nutritionally-inconsistent food donations without considering the food's source or its condition, may only add to health issues suffered by much of the homeless population. Additionally, people seeking to donate food can do so at a local food pantry or soup kitchen.
"The issue of prohibiting food donations to shelters is in fact a non-issue and should not dwarf the more important conversation around finding solutions to eradicate the homelessness that plagues our City."
