The New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH) is dedicated to being one of the nation’s most effective anti-hunger agencies. In doing so, we promote and implement the most strategic practices that focus on solving the root causes of hunger (e.g. advocacy and long-term volunteerism). Click here to visit our new and improved hungervolunteer.org, where kids, adults, groups, businesses and anti-hunger groups can learn more about how to most effectively fight hunger through volunteer work.
Although NYCCAH values all types of volunteerism, the Coalition is looking to redefine volunteerism and how people serve. The truth is that relatively few pantries and kitchens need more untrained volunteers to perform manual food service tasks. What these agencies really need are dedicated long-term volunteers or professional and technical volunteers (e.g. experts in web design, grant writing, or accounting).
NYCCAH does not operate its own food pantry or soup kitchen. Instead, NYCCAH runs various volunteer initiatives that connect volunteers with soup kitchens and food pantries across all five boroughs of New York City.
